National Ignore the News Day

Daily Prompt: Invent a holiday! Explain how and why everyone should celebrate.

My first thought was to create National Love a Cat Day.  Or National Forgive Your Pet for Being Annoying Day. I do these things everyday, so it wouldn’t really be new, would it? So, I had to think of something else. I thought of Do Something Different Day. It would be do something you wouldn’t normally do, blah, blah, blah. But I wouldn’t do that myself, so I wouldn’t ask other people to do it.  Then it hit me. What drives me crazy on a daily basis? What would be good to go for 1 day without seeing or hearing? The news.

The news is always depressing. Everyday, something new is going to kill you. Breathing is going to kill me. Some new person has said or done something stupid. And don’t get me started on politicians. I had a friend who ignored the news for a month. I could never ignore it for that long. Mostly because my husband is a news addict. We watch local news, network news, political news, business news and weather news. The political stuff sends me into fits. I usually have to leave the room. My husband giggles at me, I  know he does. So, I propose a day without it. Or maybe just a day of good news. A day where people say nice things to each other and about each other. Wouldn’t that be nice?

  1. This immediately reminded me of this song. I think it is relevant and appropriate here:

The song is “A Little Good News” by Anne Murray. I hope you find it relevant. Even though it was made in the eighties, I think, it still has a lot of relevance for what is going on and the state of our world today.
