I just read a story about someone dropping their 16 year old dog at the shelter because they didn’t have time for him. Fuck you. Fuck anyone that would do that to an animal. I hate you. You suck. And may your ass forever be aflame with rancid diarrhea. I realize that sometimes people have to relinquish their dogs for good reason. I get that life happens. But this is so utterly shitty and ridiculous. That dog gave you his love and undying devotion for 16 years. 16 years! And in the end of his days when he should be surrounded by only love and comfort, you give him this as reward. Fortunately, the shelter managed to get this dog into a rescue where he will have some peace in his final years. If you bring an animal into your home, it should be until that animal passes. If you cannot do that, then don’t bother.

I adopted my dog when he was around 8 years old. He had not been neutered, he most likely lived the majority of his life on a chain or rope. Some people asked me why I would adopt such an old and likely unhealthy dog (no teeth, missing ear, heart problems, etc). Why? Because the least I or we as humans can do is give them the best until the end. I knew that he may not make it a year or even a month. But I wanted to know that at least his last days would  be surrounded by love and compassion. He’s lived with us for 2 + years now. And yes he gets on my last nerve sometimes. But I love him and wouldn’t have it any other way.

All of my cats are seniors. And they’ll be with me until the end of their days as well. I made a promise when I brought them into my home. I plan to keep it.
