After NaNoWriMo ended, I continued to write through December. But January has been a wordless month for me. I read about writers who never get writer’s block. They say they don’t understand what it means. I get the feeling they are saying, “If you get writer’s block, you aren’t a real writer.” Maybe that’s true. Maybe it isn’t. Personally, I think external forces have a lot to do with my writing. If I have a lot happening in the real world (the world outside my book), I have a hard time entering my fantasy world. I get frustrated and angry with myself for not being more productive. So, I try to edit. Sometimes that works. But it is not working for me right (write) now. Just my Saturday rant.
I think writers who say they don’t get blocked are fooling themselves, or maybe they don’t look at it the same way. All writers struggle, whether it’s for topics or content. I think some just see it more as part of the process than a blog. Have you tried looking at random image or word generators? Sometimes I browse the travel section of Pinterest for ideas for an interesting setting. I think people put too much pressure to find a “great idea,” so if you think you’re in that category don’t worry about it. Just find something that interests you and write!
I think I’ve been concentrating on one thing too much. Maybe I need to go to something else for a little while.
That can always help. I think it’s important to not get too bogged down in one project. You’ll probably figure out what was holding you back if you spend some time away from your draft. Good luck!
That’s just too cute! Hugs from Oz! Enjoy the weekend! Hugs Psula xx
My Plot Bunny had 2 ears and 2 eyes when it started out. But cats and plot bunnies are mortal enemies, unbeknownst to me.
Haha! X
Writer’s block sucks~ I’ve had it for a couple of years. Finally the energy is flowing again. Good luck, Dear One~
I hope to get the energy back soon. Spring usually brings it, but I would like for it to return sooner.
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten writers block, but life has certainly gotten in the way a few times. When I’ve been highly stressed at home, for what ever reason, it’s the first thing that goes out the window. Life can stifle my creative muse. Luckily there are also things I can do to bring myself back around. 🙂 Winter normally is my best writing time, in summer I’m normally to busy outside with the koi 🙂
Beware the plot bunny! He’s got huge pointy fangs… and he can jump from… and… Actually, I think that was the rabbit in Monty Python and the holy grail. Are they related by any chance?
Writer’s block? I think it really should be defined: is it the inability to write anything, or the inability to write anything good? I wonder which definition the people who say they dont’ get it mean… I hope you find the inspiration you are looking for to jump back into your fantasy world soon! I’m hoping to find some myself to write the ending to a novel I’ve been working on for a bit and have recently stalled on.
